Clinical Study on Ilemangioma in the Head and Neck Region

Abstract
Hemangioma is regarded as a congenital vascular abnormality rather than a neoplasm. Hemangioma is very important for cosmetic considerations. Hemangiom.as are classified as capillary, cavernous, and sclerosing types. The approach of surgeons and pathologists to the problem of hemangiomas has often been deficient in organization and authentication. The difficulty lies in the determination of treatment methods and time.
We have classified 78 cases with hemangioma in the head and neck region who visited the S.N.U.H. during the period of Jan. 1965 to Jan. 1975 in several clinical points.
The results are as follows:
1. Hemangiomas are three times pore common in females than in mafes and manifested et¢¥ birth in 62.8%.
2. In the age group under 10yrs old ¢¥hemangionas are mostly in cavernous type, but in the age group over 10yrs old in capillary type.
3. Hemangiomas are mostly solitary, an the most common sites are cheek (33.¢¥8%), head (20.6%), lip (7.4%), tongue (7.4%), and neck (5.9%) in order.
4. Hemangiomas developed cosmetic problems in 88.8%, and surgical excision & plastic reconstruction and expectation for the spontaneous regression are better treatment methods.
